Clay was raised by two artists as parents with his younger brother. His dad is a retired Music Teacher and was a Professional Jazz Musician on the Melbourne music scene from the 1950's through till the end of the 1980's. His mum is a Melbourne watercolour and oil artist, Elizabeth Mansfield. She exhibits regularly and teaches art privately. When the family moved to Queensland for a while they all moved back to Melbourne one by one.
His mum has been re-married for years to a great fella and Clay has an adult step brother and sister who he thinks are ace. He thinks his little brother is ace too.
He loves surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding and going home to his home city from his second city Brisbane. Dad taught him music and mum taught him art when he would listen. They all grew up in the Elsternwick/Gardenvale area of Melbourne just south of Elwood and St Kilda and Clay spilt lots of blood at Prahran bowl while skateboarding in the 80's and on Elsternwick park playing for the defunct Elsternwick Junior Hockey Club. But his favorite thing to do growing up was to ride his bike or skateboard from the end of North road Gardenvale through St Kilda to Port Melbourne along the beach doing skids and olies all the way he loved doing this alone. Presently he lives very close to the city in Brisbane and loves to paint in the sunlight through his sun room in the afternoon.
